> An AI roleplay app with a world wiki the AI reads before every reply. What goes in the World Bible, what the AI sees, and how guarded panels keep a twist.

You spend an evening building a world. A lodge under a mountain pass, six strangers, a legend about the snow. Then you start the roleplay, and by the tenth reply the AI has given the lodge a working phone, forgotten who is injured, and let a side character talk about a secret nobody told him.

An AI roleplay app needs a world wiki, a set of pages about your characters, places and rules that the AI reads before it writes every reply. On Lunafic that wiki is the World Bible, called the [Wiki](https://lunafic.ai/features/world-bible/) in the app, and each page in it decides for itself when the AI sees it and whether players can read it.

Most chat apps give you one description box per character. Personality, looks, backstory, the rules of the world and example lines all go into the same paragraph, and the AI has to guess which part matters right now. When it guesses wrong, people call it hallucination. A lot of the time it is a filing problem.

## Why does the AI forget your world?

There are two reasons, and neither is about the model being bad.

The first is that a chat history is not a world. The facts you set up in message 3 are still somewhere in the log at message 300, mixed with jokes, retries and small talk. Old facts fade unless something brings them back.

The second is that one long description gives the AI no sense of priority. The color of a character's coat and the one rule that holds the whole story together sit at the same weight.

Marie-Laure Ryan, who writes about immersion in fiction, describes reading as building a mental copy of the story's world and checking each new sentence against it (*Narrative as Virtual Reality*, "The Text as World"). Immersion holds while that world stays consistent. When a dead phone starts working, you stop being inside the story and start noticing the text. In roleplay the AI is the one writing those sentences, so it needs its own copy of the world to check against, written down, every time.

## What goes in the World Bible?

Every entry is a page that reads like a Notion page instead of a long form. An entry can be a Character, Location, Lore, Species, Faction, Magic System, Item, Artifact, Culture, Religion, or Custom. Characters are the ones the AI plays. The rest give the world its facts.

Inside an entry, the information is split into panels, like Personality, Speech Style, Speech Examples, Appearance or Relationships. The split matters, because each panel can be treated differently.

## What does the AI actually see when writing?

Each panel has a visibility setting:

- **Always**: the AI sees it on every reply.
- **On stage**: the AI sees it only when that character is in the scene.
- **Private**: never sent to the AI, notes for you only.

You can also star an entry so it is always in the AI's context. Keep stars for the few things the AI must never miss, like the one rule your story depends on.

On stage works with [In this scene](https://lunafic.ai/features/in-this-scene/), the list of who is present right now. A character who is not in the room does not take up space, and does not speak.

When you release a [Playable World](https://lunafic.ai/features/playable-worlds/) for other people, you can also mark panels as **Guarded**. Players cannot read a guarded panel, but the AI still uses it to write. That is where a world keeps its twist.

## How is this different from a character description?

A description tells the AI who someone is. A good wiki panel tells the AI how to write them tonight.

Behavior beats biography. Three paragraphs of family history still give you a flat voice. What changes the replies is:

- **Speech style**: how the character sounds, their sentence endings, habits, rhythm, and words they would never use.
- **Personality** in three moods: in public, in private, and under pressure.
- **Speech examples**: about five real lines, as different from each other as possible.
- **Knowledge**: plain facts about what this character knows and does not know.

## What it looks like in a real world

[Seven at Hollowmere](https://lunafic.ai/scenarios/seven-at-hollowmere) is a horror mystery on Lunafic. A bus goes off a mountain pass in a white-out, six survivors walk up to a closed lodge, and the old caretaker has already set out seven bowls.

Its World Bible has one Location entry for the lodge. The description panel says the telephone is dead because the line is down, the upstairs doors don't lock from inside, and nobody can walk out and live, because the cold kills in under an hour. Those three facts keep everyone inside the lodge for the whole story, so they live in the wiki instead of being repeated in every message.

There is one Lore entry, The Borrowed, with an open panel called What people say. Any player can read it:

> "It only takes people out on the road, never anyone indoors. It knows their whole life but the last steps before it was taken. It feeds once a night, quietly, and has no other powers. Old rules: count your faces at breakfast; salt the doors at dusk; bar it in the ice house till sunrise..."

Everything a player needs to start suspecting each other is right there. What really happened on the walk up is in a second panel of the same entry, and that one is guarded.

Each survivor also has open panels (Personality, Appearance, Background, Relationships) and guarded ones. Ines Calloway, the ER nurse, has a Personality panel anyone can read: "Distrusts anything she cannot measure. Treats the legend as group panic until the first body." Her guarded panels hold what makes her look guilty, and what would give her away if she were not who she says she is. The AI plays her from all of it. You only see what she shows you.

## What the World Bible is NOT

- **It is not story memory.** The wiki is what is true about the world before you start. What happens in your story, who got hurt, who you lied to, is kept by [story memory](https://lunafic.ai/features/story-memory/), a separate system.
- **It is not free.** Every panel the AI sees costs context on every reply, in every story that plays your world. The best Wiki is the smallest one that makes the voices ring true.
- **It does not make the AI perfect.** A clear wiki makes slips much rarer. When one happens, you can fix the line by hand, or fix the panel that caused it so every later scene improves.
- **Guarded is not a lock on the story.** It hides the text from players reading your world. The AI still acts on it, which is the point, and a sharp player can still guess your twist.

## How to build your first World Bible on the free plan

1. Open [lunafic.ai](https://lunafic.ai) and [start a Private world](https://lunafic.ai/docs/start-a-private-world). A name, one character, and who you are, then Chapter 1 opens.
2. Open the Wiki from the right panel under This world, or type `/wiki` in the reply line.
3. Press New Entry. Choose **Build with AI** to describe a character in your own words and keep what fits, or **Write it myself**.
4. Add one Location and one Lore entry with the two or three facts your story must never break. Star the most important one.
5. Play one scene. If a voice comes out flat, fix that character's Speech Style or Personality panel, and play the scene again.
