> New to Lunafic? It is AI roleplay where you play your own character and the AI plays everyone else, in a story saved as chapters like a book. This post is the update email we sent to our players on October 13, 2026, with every picture in it. You can [start for free](https://lunafic.ai/).

It’s been 4 days since the memory update, and we shipped more than 130 changes since then. Most of them are small fixes you won’t notice, so here are the ones that change how your story plays. But first, something new to try.

## Claude is in Lunafic, and we want you to test it

Claude is the AI model made by Anthropic. Claude Haiku 5.5 and Claude Sonnet 5.5 are now in the model picker, for everyone on a paid plan.

- **Half price.** We only take 50% of the real cost from your AI usage, we pay the other half.
- **$5 to start.** Every paid account got $5 of Bonus AI usage for Claude, and it lasts one month. If you start paying before November 13 you get it too. Bonus AI usage is spent before your plan’s AI usage.
- **A limit.** Each month you can use up to $50 of Claude at the real price, at half price that’s $25 of your AI usage.

Why are we doing this? It’s an experiment. We want to know how Claude handles your roleplay compared to the models you use today, especially Haiku, because we want to see if it can replace our Flash model.

So try it on a story you know well and tell us how it feels, the [r/Lunafic](https://www.reddit.com/r/Lunafic/) community is the easiest place. It’s a limited test, so it can change or stop.

## Character Status, Memory and story improvements

### We tested memory on a real story of 1,600 turns

22 chapters long, where every turn is about 800 words. One turn is your message and the reply. By turn 1,600 that’s more than 1.2 million words, about a dozen novels.

We hid ten facts in chapter 1, like a law, a vow and a password, then asked about them again and again as the story went on. The test ran on the Plus plan memory, using the Flash model, the lowest tier of ours.

- Every one of those facts was still in the memory the AI received, at every point we checked.
- At turn 1,600 the AI answered all 22 direct questions right.
- When the question was only a hint, it connected less often, 63% at turn 1,600.
- Sometimes a character agrees when you say something false about the past, even when the memory says otherwise.

We are still working on the last two. The test also found problems we could fix right away, and those are in the next section. And 1,600 turns is the Plus memory, Extended memory on Ultra and Ultra+ reads up to twice as much of your recent story, so it holds up to twice that. More about how memory works is on the [story memory page](https://lunafic.ai/features/story-memory).

### Memory fixes

- **A new chapter continues the last one.** Before, when you started a new chapter, the AI kept only the last few pages of the chapter before word for word, so what happened right before the change could feel forgotten. Now it keeps much more of it, until your new chapter fills up.
- **Misspelled names.** The AI sometimes misspells a character’s name in front of their line, and we saw it more often lately. Now the line still finds the right character with their picture, and the name is never offered as a new person.
- **Promises that change.** Promises and laws are saved word for word. When the story changes one later, like a debt that got paid, the change is now saved under it, so the AI stops using the old version.
- **Flash thinks more.** The Flash model now thinks harder before it writes. It holds the story better, the cost is replies take a bit longer and use a bit more AI usage.
- **Chapter memories finish.** On long stories many chapter memories failed to build, about 4 in 10 in our test. Now 24 of 24 finished.
- **Loops get stopped.** When the AI starts repeating the same words over and over, we stop it while the reply is still coming.

### Character Dead or gone

Before, when a character died in your story they could stay in the scene, and the AI kept them alive, our co-founder found this one. Now when a character dies or leaves the story for good, the AI marks it and they move to Dead or gone in your In this scene list. In this scene is the row above the reply box that shows who is on stage right now.

If the AI got it wrong, tap Bring back.

### Character Status

Before, relationships or RPG-like stats were impossible to use in Lunafic unless you edited them yourself in the wiki, now it’s possible. The wiki is the set of character sheets the AI reads before every reply.

How it works:

- The world’s author picks values characters have, like trust or health, and writes when each one changes.
- Then the AI changes a value only when the story shows it happen, and you see a small line right where it changed.
- Values show in In this scene and on each character’s card, you can change one yourself or undo a change, and every story keeps its own numbers.

There are several ways to use this feature, and they work for both Private and Playable worlds:

- Open the "In scene" pill bar above the prompt input, click the character there and you’ll find the status you can manage.
- Open the Wiki, the Status feature is right there.
- Prompt the AI to show your (MC) or a character’s stats, it will show a nice UI for you, we expect to add more customization later.
- Create World -> Playable World -> Status. Now you can set the status format for anyone that plays your world.

It’s brand new, so expect some bugs. :) The full guide is on the [Character Status page](https://lunafic.ai/features/character-status).

### Story secrets

A world’s author can now add up to 3 secrets, like “What Celia Brightwater really is” in The Villainess Knows How the Extra Dies. Every new story gets one answer, picked by the app, never by the AI and never your own character. The AI knows the answer and lets it show in small signs, and you find out by playing.

You see the question in the Memory window, and the answer shows when you reach an ending. So the same world can play out differently every time.

### New characters the AI brings in

When the AI brings someone new into your story with a name, a card tells you they’re new. Tap Keep and they’re saved in your story’s wiki as Only in this story, so the AI remembers who they are, even in someone else’s world. You can also add someone yourself, In this scene -> Add someone new. And side characters without a name, like “The librarian”, now show as proper speaker bubbles.

### Script lock, no more stray Chinese words

Some of you saw a Chinese word in the middle of an English reply, like 演示. It happened in about 1 of 70 Flash replies. The AI was thinking in English, the slip happens at the moment it picks the next word, so no instruction could stop it. Now words from a writing system your story doesn’t use can’t be picked at all. In our test asking for Chinese, Russian, Japanese and Korean words, it went from 8 of 8 slipped to 0 of 8. The cost is the first word shows about 2 seconds later. Romaji stories aren’t covered yet.

### Story character builder

When you use Build with AI on a character in your story, it now reads your story’s own lines about them. Before, it read only your short note and invented the rest, a name, a childhood, even people from another book. Now every name it writes comes from your story, the parts your story never showed stay empty, and titles go to the right person. In our test the old builder invented names in 4 of 4 sheets, the new one in 0 of 10.

That’s a lot for 4 days, and some of it is still rough, so if something feels off in your story, tell us. :)

Regards,

Arbi from Lunafic
