> Three habits keep your AI usage small on Lunafic. Keep the in scene cast small, keep character sheets tight, and fold story memory early.

Every time you send a reply, the AI reads before it writes. It reads the characters in the scene with their full sheets, the rules of the world, and your recent story. The size of that reading is what your AI usage measures. A long message from you costs almost nothing extra. What decides the cost is how much the AI has to read.

## A big world is free, a crowded stage is not

The worry sounds like this. I created twenty characters, so every message must be expensive. It is not. Only the characters in the scene are read, and the rest wait backstage at no cost.

Each character on stage brings their full sheet into every reply. Two or three on stage feels rich and stays cheap. Past three, the cost climbs on every send, because the AI reads all of those sheets at once. When a character leaves the action, remove them from the In this scene row.

## How big should a character sheet be

A sheet is read on every send while that character is on stage. A sheet that tells their whole life story reads nicely for you, and the AI pays for every line again and again. The ideal sheet holds what makes this character speak and act right today, with how they talk, what they want, how they treat your character, and the wounds that still steer them.

## Long stories and the fold

As a story grows, the AI reads more of it on every send. The fold fixes that. Older scenes become short recaps, the newest part of the story stays word for word, and the reading shrinks with it. Open the Memory dialog and press Fold now between chapters, instead of waiting until the story gets heavy.

## Does folding make the AI forget things

A fold turns old scenes into notes, and notes are shorter than the real scenes. A tiny detail from a very old scene, like the color of a coat, can blur. That is the honest trade.

Three things keep the damage small. Your newest scenes always stay word for word. Things that must stay exact, like a vow or a deal, are kept word for word in Promises and rules. And you can open the Memory dialog any time, read every recap, and fix anything wrong.

## The habit, in short

Keep one or two characters on stage and move the rest backstage when they leave. Keep character sheets to what makes each character act right today. Fold between chapters.
