> Where the chapters, the story, the tools and the reply line live, and why they sit there.

The writing screen has a few quiet areas, and each one stays in the same place. The words you write and the words the AI writes take the middle.

## The left column, your chapters

The left column is the table of contents of your story. It lists your chapters in order, marks the one you are in, and scrolls by itself when the list is long. Press the plus to start a new chapter. Branches sit under the chapter they came from.

On a phone, the chapters open from a drawer on the left.

## The sidebar, to go somewhere else

The sidebar is for moving around Lunafic, with Discover, Worlds, Characters, Create, Library and Search. It opens over your story and closes without moving a single word.

## The right panel, your story tools

- Playing as. **Who you are in this story, with Edit your MC underneath.**
- Characters. **The characters of your world.**
- This world. **The Wiki, scene images, and Narrative Settings.**
- Background. **A tint behind the page, from None to Paper, Night, Rose, Violet or Ocean.**
- Tools. **Find and replace, and Export.**

## Above the reply line

- Memory. **Opens your story memory. A small bar inside it shows how full the memory is.**
- In this scene. **The characters on stage right now. Open it to add or remove someone.**

While you type, this row steps aside so your words get the full width, and it comes back when you stop.

## The reply line

[Your side of the story happens here.](/docs/the-input-bar) Type / to open commands. The model picker sits beside it and steps aside while you type.

## While the AI writes

New words arrive slightly see-through, with a soft glow on the newest word, so you can read them and know they are not final. A small Writing status shows above, with Stop and a timer. Above the reply, a blurred thinking bar opens to show what the AI is working through. When the reply finishes, the text settles into the page.
