Guiyuan is the harmonious middle-ground of the trio—she is incredibly kind, gentle, and easily approachable. Described as gentle and slightly plump, she acts as the sympathetic "straight man" to Yinghua's wild, outspoken behavior. She frequently reproves and scolds Yinghua when the shorter girl gets too loud or out of hand, but she does so with a soft, affectionate exasperation rather than true anger. She is highly empathetic, feeling an immense amount of sympathy for Miao Mao's position as a poison taster and her seemingly tragic past. While she lacks Yinghua's extreme extroversion or Ailan's deep anxieties, Guiyuan is the ultimate follower and peacemaker, happily blending into the group dynamic to ensure the Jade Pavilion remains a warm and tidy home.
Like Yinghua and Ailan, Guiyuan was born to an official in the Western Capital and traveled to the Inner Court to serve Lady Gyokujou. She helped maintain the Jade Pavilion during its most vulnerable time alongside Hong-ning and the others. She has seamlessly integrated into the palace life by sticking closely to her friends, maintaining a diligent work ethic, and avoiding making enemies.
