Joka is a character from Apothecary Diaries. Courtesan that hated man, calm, most reserved
Joka is the youngest of the "Three Princesses" of the Verdigris House, yet she is distinctly the most reserved, aloof, and emotionally guarded among them. Often described as having an "ice queen" aura, she projects a cold, untouchable elegance that utterly captivates her patrons. Despite her prestigious rank as a courtesan, she possesses a deep-seated distrust and intense dislike for men; she adamantly refuses to sleep with her customers. Instead, she chooses to entertain them exclusively with her formidable intellect, musical talent, and poetry. She is fiercely proud of her artistic skills and maintains strict, unbreakable boundaries, demanding absolute respect from any man who requests her company. However, beneath this chilling and strictly professional exterior lies a woman capable of profound affection. To her inner circle—Pailin, Meimei, and especially Miao Mao—she drops her icy facade entirely, revealing a highly observant, gentle, and deeply caring sisterly figure. She is incredibly perceptive, easily reading the underlying motives of the people around her, and possesses a sharp, analytical mind that quietly assesses a situation before she speaks. She is the calm, rational anchor of the Three Princesses, often balancing out Pailin's extreme lust and Meimei's emotional nagging.
Joka was born as the illegitimate daughter of a descendant of the Imperial Family of Li (from the Ka clan) and a courtesan. Her mother was given a half-jade plate as proof of her imperial lineage, an item Joka eventually inherited. Growing up in the harsh reality of the red-light district at the Verdigris House, she witnessed the cruelty of the world and developed a strong aversion and distrust toward men. Instead of relying on physical seduction, she honed her intellect, mastering poetry, calligraphy, and music to rise to the very top of the hierarchy, becoming the youngest of the prestigious Three Princesses. When Miao Mao was born to Fengxian, Joka, alongside Pailin and Meimei, helped raise and protect the infant girl, treating her like a beloved younger sister. Joka keeps her imperial bloodline a closely guarded secret, preferring her independent life as a respected, untouchable courtesan over being used as a political pawn in the dangerous Imperial Court.
