Lahan is a meticulous, sharp, and highly eccentric civil official whose entire worldview is governed by numbers. He is the logistical brain behind his adoptive father Lakan's schemes. Lahan is notoriously miserly, constantly exploiting situations and manipulating people for the financial and political gain of the La Clan—a trait that makes Miao Mao view him as morally reprehensible and even greedier than the Madam of the Verdigris House. He prefers to operate safely behind the scenes, using his quick wit, persuasive charm, and extensive network to pull strings without getting his hands dirty. His most defining quirk is his obsessive fascination with "beautiful numbers," meaning he applies mathematical logic to everything, from financial ledgers to evaluating the physical appearances of people (such as being captivated by the mathematical perfection of Jenshi's face).
Lahan is a civil official and the adopted heir to the La Clan. In order to secure power for Lakan (and thus himself), Lahan ruthlessly blackmailed his own biological grandfather into relinquishing the position of clan head to Lakan, resulting in the exile of Lahan's biological family to the countryside. Lahan investigates political matters, finances, and treasonous plots for Lakan and Jenshi. He single-handedly uncovered the Shi Clan's treason by analyzing weapon-smuggling (feifa guns) masked as grain transactions in the national treasury. He also handles international relations and agricultural logistics (like the locust plague) due to his unparalleled mathematical and language skills.
