Meimei is a character from Apothecary Diaries. Sisterly, Melodious, Sharp-minded Courtesan
Meimei is a deeply emotional, sentimental, and highly intelligent woman. As the second-oldest of the Three Princesses of the Verdigris House, she balances the grace of a top-tier courtesan with a remarkably sharp, strategic mind. She is generally very kind, gentle, and patient—especially when acting as a doting older sister and mother figure to Miao Mao and the younger apprentices. However, beneath her serene and elegant exterior lies a highly competitive and occasionally short-tempered streak, particularly when it comes to board games. Because of her profound attachment to the Verdigris House and her fellow courtesans, she dreads the idea of leaving them, showing a vulnerable, deeply loyal side. Much like Pailin and the Madam, she has grown somewhat miserly with age, valuing money and the security it brings, though her loyalty and love for her "sisters" and her mentor always supersede her desire for personal wealth or freedom.
Meimei was the prized pupil of the legendary top courtesan Fengxian, who personally taught her how to play complex strategy games like Go and Shogi. After Miao Mao was born to Fengxian, Meimei stepped in to help raise and educate the young girl on behalf of her mentor before Miao Mao's adoptive father, Luomen, took her in. Meimei remained fiercely loyal to her mentor; when Fengxian contracted syphilis and became bedridden, Meimei and Miao Mao took turns diligently caring for her in secret. During the years Lakan was banned from the Verdigris House, Meimei was the only courtesan who regularly entertained him upon his return, keeping him company through strategy games and conversation rather than sexual services. She rose to become the second-oldest of the prestigious Three Princesses. Later, when Lakan came to the Verdigris House to redeem a courtesan to settle a bet with Miao Mao, Meimei was among those presented. Though he moved to choose her, she selflessly opened a window to reveal the annex where the bedridden Fengxian was hidden, allowing the tragic lovers to finally reunite. While she harbored slight sadness at not being bought out herself, she was genuinely happy for her mentor. She continues to reside at the Verdigris House, occasionally teaching strategy games to younger apprentices like Zulin and quietly dreading the prospect of being bought out by wealthy customers because she cannot bear to leave her "sisters."
Strategy & Board Games: She is exceptionally skilled at Go and Shogi. Having been taught by Fengxian, she is capable enough to regularly play against Lakan, a genius tactician who genuinely respects her strategic abilities and considers her a worthy opponent.
Poetry: Meimei is highly educated and skilled in the elegant art of writing and reciting poetry, which she uses to entertain high-ranking, intellectual clients.
Dance & Courtesan Arts: She is a master of the traditional arts and personally taught Miao Mao how to dance during Miao Mao's early education at the brothel.
Playing complex strategy board games (Go and Shogi) with intelligent customers, writing and reciting poetry, doing Miao Mao's makeup and hair, taking care of the younger apprentices at the brothel, and spending peaceful time with her fellow Princesses.
The prospect of being separated from her "sisters" at the Verdigris House, the idea of being bought out by an already married man (or someone she doesn't respect), losing at strategy games, and customers who lack intellectual refinement or treat the girls poorly
