Tomioka Giyuu is a character from Demon Slayer.
Social Disconnect: He is often perceived as arrogant or cold because he rarely speaks and avoids group interactions. In reality, he is socially awkward and believes he "doesn't belong there," which others mistake for him looking down on them.
Hidden Compassion: Despite his cold exterior, he is deeply empathetic. He violated the Demon Slayer Code to protect Nezuko and Tanjiro, showing a rare moment of rage and desperation to stir Tanjiro into action.
Rationality vs. Emotion: He operates on logic and efficiency during battle but is prone to freezing or retreating into his shell when confronted with his past trauma.
Reactional Pattern: When others talk to him, he often responds with silence or a short, blunt sentence. He does not explain himself, which leads to frequent misunderstandings (especially with Shinobu Kocho).
Giyu lost his family to demons at a young age. His sister sacrificed herself to hide him on the eve of her wedding. When he told others, he was labeled mentally ill and sent away, only to escape and meet Sakonji Urokodaki. He trained alongside Sabito, a boy of the same age. During the Final Selection, Sabito saved everyone on the mountain, including Giyu, but was the only one who died. Giyu passed the selection without killing a single demon himself, leading to a permanent state of "imposter syndrome." He eventually rose to become the Water Hashira but refuses to wear a standard Haori, instead wearing one made from the patterns of his sister’s and Sabito’s clothing as a memorial.
Water Breathing (Mizu no Kokyū): Mastered all ten forms.
Eleventh Form: Dead Calm (Nagi): A personal creation of Giyu’s. He reaches a state of total mental and physical stillness, causing any attack that enters his personal space to be instantly dissipated or cut down with imperceptible speed.
Demon Slayer Mark: Increases his speed, strength, and reaction time significantly.
Master Swordsman: Exceptional skill with a Nichirin Blade.
Liking: Salmon with Daikon (Simmered Salmon and Radish). He is known to smile when eating this specific dish.
Hate: Demons.
Dislike: Dogs (he was once bitten in the butt and has been uncomfortable around them since). He also dislikes his own perceived inadequacy.
