> Lunafic V4 is live. Play other people's worlds like co-op, pick your hero and how the story opens, see the world's pictures, plus the first-day updates.

Two weeks ago we wrote that V4 was only a plan, and we said "it can be 1-2 weeks? We don't know". It took two weeks, and Lunafic V4 is live now. 😄

And in the first day after launch we already shipped a lot of updates, so this post has both. What V4 is, and what changed since.

## Why we made V4 at all

Lunafic found there are two types of players. The one who enjoys building their own world, and the one who just wants to play. Lunafic only served the first one. Many new players opened a world, typed "Hi" to test it, and didn't know what to do next. We know something was wrong in our design that led to this.

V4 is our answer, roleplay that is easier to start and easier to understand.

## We redrew every screen, starting from the phone

The old Lunafic was confusing for new users. Navigation and chapters were mixed on the left side, and it was hard to find where to edit a character.

In V4 we drew every screen for the phone first, then brought it to desktop, so there are fewer things on the screen at once. If something still feels confusing, tell us, we are fixing things every day.

## Two kinds of worlds, like co-op in a game

If you don't know co-op, that's okay, I'll explain. In a game like Genshin Impact you can enter another player's world. You run around and fight together, but you cannot renovate their house or redraw their map, because the world belongs to its owner.

Lunafic V4 works the same way.

- **Playable World.** Someone else built it, you play it. You talk with the characters like a chat, and if a reply goes wrong you retry it or remove it. The characters, the rules, and the world's wiki stay in the hands of the person who built it.
- **Private world.** Your own world, only you can open it, and you can change the world itself.

In both kinds you can edit any line of your own story like a book, yours or the characters'. At launch this only worked in private worlds. A few hours later we opened it for Playable Worlds too, because fixing one wrong word by hand is faster than asking the AI to write the whole reply again.

In the September post we called these "Public mode" and "Private mode" (unofficial names). The final names are Playable World and private world.

## Click play -> now you know what to do

This is the "Hi" problem. When you press Play on a Playable World, you get

- Choose your hero, a role the author made or your own character
- Starting choices, so you pick how the story opens
- Endings to reach, in worlds where the author made roles
- Rules of the world

Worlds without roles are free play, you just jump in.

## Pictures finally feel like roleplay

In the old Lunafic you could already add images with the "/" command, but we found this useless because it didn't feel like roleplay at all.

In V4, the person who builds a world adds pictures for its big moments. While you play, the AI shows the right picture when that moment happens, and many worlds open on their own picture. This is not realtime image generation, the author of the world prepares the pictures.

Every picture you meet stays in your story, the rest stay hidden until their scene happens. The Scenes panel on the right shows six of them, and See all opens the rest. A world can now hold up to 100 pictures.

## Read your story the way you like

Tap "Aa" in the story and pick a look. Lunafic, Visual novel, Chat, or Light novel, the same story in four looks, with paper colors to match.

## Your character stays yours, and nobody barges in

MC means main character, the character you play. MC Mode is still the default, so the AI never writes your character's dialogue, thoughts, or actions. And "In scene" decides who is inside the current scene, so a character outside the room never interrupts your private moment until you call them in.

## New chapter from the chat itself

Before, you always went to the left side to create a new chapter, which was annoying on the phone. Now type **/newchapter** in the chat, that's it.

## Narrative settings now work like a game menu

The old Narrative settings was a long form full of things from the time Lunafic was a writing tool. Now it has one tab called **Writing**, and it works like the options screen in a game, you press the arrows left and right to change a value.

- **Story feel.** Three cards, Slow and rich, Balanced, Fast and tense. Pick one and it sets how detailed and how fast the story reads.
- **Reply length.** Auto, Short, Medium, Long, Very long, Epic. Auto is the length Lunafic writes today. Longer replies use more of your AI usage. If the only character in the scene is waiting for you, the AI still stops at your turn even on Epic, because it never writes your character for you.
- **Your moves can fail.** Always work, Fair, Hard. On Fair or Hard, what your character tries can fail, and the world decides what happens next.
- **Characters take the lead.** Follow me, Balanced, Surprise me. How often the characters start something on their own without waiting for you.
- **Inner thoughts.** How often you hear what characters think inside.

Your moves can fail and Characters take the lead only show in MC Mode.

Some things moved. Voice, the part about who you play, now lives in the "Playing as" card on the right panel. Appearance is the "Aa" look from above. Writing Style is gone, but if you wrote one, your text shows inside Custom Instruction now, nothing is lost.

## The AI reads your world properly now

We checked what the AI really receives every time it replies, and we found real problems, some of them old habits from the writing tool days.

- The world's wiki, like the character sheets, reached the AI as raw code text in almost every story. Now the AI reads it as plain text.
- The AI uses the real names from the wiki, instead of placeholders like "the user character".
- In MC Mode the AI now treats the story as yours. It describes what your character sees and hears, and never writes their thoughts.
- A character called only by a title, like "the ancient Shade of Death", is now recognized, so the AI gets her character sheet.
- The AI is now asked to let characters act on what they want and to keep hard characters hard. In our tests, one sentence pattern the AI overused dropped from 2 in 3 replies to fewer than 1 in 10.
- Long, Very long, and Epic replies now really write longer.

We tested this on our own worlds only, so if a character still feels off in yours, tell us. :)

## The first day after launch, we kept shipping

Lunafic V4 went live around midnight our time. These came after that, and all of them are live now.

### The memory now shows its work

Memory is what the AI remembers about your story. Every reply, the AI reads your newest scenes word for word, a short recap of every chapter, the world's wiki, and your notes.

- Promises, laws, and contracts from every chapter now reach the AI word for word. Before, many of them only survived inside a recap, so a vow from chapter 3 could come back with different words.
- In very long stories the oldest chapters could drop out of memory. We found one story where the AI carried only 12 of its 19 chapters. That is fixed.
- If you go back and add to or rewrite a chapter you already finished, its memory catches up by itself once you move on and keep playing. Small edits wait until they add up.
- When you mention something from long ago, the AI looks back into every earlier chapter to find it. Before, this look-back only read English letters, so Japanese and Korean messages never started it. It also searches by meaning now, so it finds the right chapter even when you say it in different words.
- The Memory dialog is new. Press Memory above the reply line, or type /memory. It tells you in plain words what your last reply used, and you can read, edit, or update the memory of any chapter, or fix a promise the AI quotes wrong. It is open on paid plans.
- Paid plans were stuck at 10 story notes per story by mistake. Now they get 30, Free keeps 10.

### Long chapters are easier to move around

- When you open a chapter it lands on your latest message, so you continue where you stopped instead of scrolling down from the top.
- Small dots on the right side of the story, one for each message you sent, up to seven on screen at once. Tap a dot to jump there, or hold and slide to read the message first. They are big enough for a finger on the phone.

### Ask Claude or ChatGPT about your story

Some of you already use Claude or ChatGPT every day. Now you can connect Lunafic to them once, in Settings under Agent access, and then ask in plain words, like "Summarize what happened in my last chapter". It can read and search your stories, it never changes them. It can edit your own worlds and their wiki, and every wiki change can be undone. ChatGPT needs one of its paid plans for this, and it works on their website, not in their phone app.

### Smaller things

- Locked endings now show their hint, so you know what to aim for without spoiling the ending. You see them on the world page and in your story's endings list.
- A world's page shows two of its scene pictures and keeps the rest locked.
- A new public profile. Its cover is the art of a published world you pick, with your bio, the worlds you made, and the worlds you played if you turn that on. Edit it in Settings, under Profile.
- New login and sign-up pages. Rona from Shade of Death can't be this cute watches you type, falls asleep on the password, and glares when something goes wrong. :D
- App pages now follow the language you picked. Before, some pages stayed in English even when you chose Indonesian, Japanese, or Korean.
- Invite friends from the left sidebar. When your friend joins and plays their first scene, you both get extra AI usage for that month. The invite sheet tells you how much, as a percent of your own monthly AI usage.
- On the phone, the story sheet on the left is slimmer, and the extra menu in the header is gone.
- Scene pictures and scene breaks no longer get erased by the next paragraph.

The full list, grouped by topic, lives on the [Lunafic V4 page](https://lunafic.ai/v4/), and we add to it every time something ships.

## Our own worlds to start with

We promised worlds written by our team, so new players always have a good place to start. A few are already up, like [Ethereal Twins are Lazy](https://lunafic.ai/scenarios/ethreal-twins-are-lazy), [Two Paws, One Fuse](https://lunafic.ai/scenarios/two-paws-one-fuse), and [Shade of Death can't be this cute](https://lunafic.ai/scenarios/shade-of-death-can-t-be-this-cute), all with their own pictures. More will come.

## Read this part twice, not everything is done

Some things in the [September plan](https://lunafic.ai/blog/v4-announcement-whats-next-for-lunafic-big-changes) are not built yet.

- Accomplishments, goals to complete along the way
- More free AI usage, like a mission system
- The new way to present pricing

Current paid users keep everything they have. We still don't know when these land, maybe soon, maybe it takes longer, we prefer to learn from how you play V4 first.

Lunafic is still a new product, with fewer worlds and characters than you probably want, and V4 still needs more testing from real players. So go ahead, open a world, press play, and tell us what breaks. :)

Regards,

Arbi from Lunafic
