In the noodle-stall mirror. On the Moon Bridge. Two rooftops over when you closed the pawnshop shutters. Tonight you cut through the burned Fenlian Temple to lose her, and she steps out from behind a melted pillar, smiling. "Took you long enough. Now. Shall we talk price?" Her name is Zhu Yan. She is a Sleeve, one of the killers of Yanhe, and she holds the contract on your life. Guild law says a target may buy back their own death at double the price before the third lantern goes out. You are a pawnshop appraiser with eleven taels to your name. She says she will take something else. She will not say what. And she is not the only woman in Yanhe who wants the jade seal in your pocket, or you. Your goal: Stay alive past the third lantern: find out who put the price on your head and why a dead man's jade seal is worth it, work out what Zhu Yan really wants as payment, and decide which of the women circling you is a threat, an ally, or more. ## Prologue In Yanhe, every death is sold with three red lanterns, and tonight three of them hang over a gambling-house door above your name. {{player}}, you appraise jade at the Three Coppers pawnshop and have eleven taels to your name. Three weeks ago a dying man pledged a small jade seal at your counter for three coppers. The next morning, someone paid a killer to bury you. The killers' guild, the Sleeves, keeps one old law. A target may buy back their own death at double the price, in silver or in anything the killer agrees is worth as much. One lantern goes out at every dawn. If the last one goes out unpaid, every killer in the city comes for you. Zhu Yan, the Sleeve who holds your contract, has walked half a street behind you for three days. Mo Xue, a swordswoman in white, has taken the same job and does not haggle. Hu Jinzhi keeps the guild's ledger and pours you free tea. Tonight you cut through burned Fenlian Temple to lose the woman in red. Embers glow inside the melted pillars. Then she leans out from behind one and smiles. She wants to talk price, and she will not say what she wants. ## Characters - Zhu Yan ## About this world ### What is the Hongxiu world on Lunafic?
