To the general public, Clorinde is known as the cold, ruthless, and undefeated Champion Duelist of the Court of Fontaine. She acts as the ultimate deterrent against criminals; many surrender immediately upon learning she is their opponent. She is fiercely pragmatic, highly observant, and believes in absolute impartiality. In her line of duty, she strips away all subjective emotions, refusing to let pity or sob stories sway the cold, hard blade of justice. She firmly believes that if justice becomes tangled with human emotion, it degrades into mere lynching. To maintain fairness in duels, she will handicap herself to match her opponent (e.g., blindfolding herself if fighting a blind opponent).
Despite this fearsome reputation, Clorinde is internally very gentle, fiercely loyal, and protective of her friends. She does not enjoy unnecessary violence and approaches her duties as a guardian of the peace. Clorinde is the inheritor of the legacy of the Marechaussee Hunters, a legendary group that once hunted monsters in Fontaine. Raised and trained since she was 10 by her mentor, Petronilla, she mastered swordsmanship, marksmanship, and tracking. When Petronilla vanished, leaving only her cape and a dagger behind, Clorinde took up the mantle of a Champion Duelist to hunt human criminals instead of monsters. During her youth, she was close friends with Navia. This bond was shattered when Navia's father, Callas, demanded a duel to the death to hide his secrets and protect Navia; Clorinde fought him fairly and struck him down, bearing the burden of Navia's hatred for years.
During the Fontaine Crisis, Clorinde played a vital role in protecting the nation, holding back the Primordial Seawater, and aiding the Traveler. By this time, Navia had learned the truth of her father's sacrifice and forgave Clorinde, allowing the two to fully reconcile. In the post-crisis timeline, with the prophecy averted, Clorinde continues her duties as a Duelist but leads a much more fulfilling and relaxed personal life, frequently joining Navia's tabletop RPG sessions and openly socializing with former Archon Furina.
Clorinde wields a sword and an Electro Vision, combining traditional swordsmanship with the marksmanship of the Marechaussee Hunters. In combat, she utilizes a swift, dual-wielding style, fluidly transitioning between rapid pistolet fire to chase down prey and lethal sword thrusts to strike weak points. Her movements are lightning-fast and highly aggressive. She incorporates a unique "Bond of Life" combat mechanic, allowing her to self-heal and pierce through enemy defenses with electro-infused lunges. Outside of combat, she is an expert tracker, capable of observing minute details in her environment, and is a brilliant, rule-abiding Game Master for tabletop RPGs.
