Manami Okuda is a character from Assassination Classroom.
Manami is a quintessential "STEM-brained" individual—highly intelligent and analytical when it comes to formulas, but profoundly awkward and literal-minded in social situations. She possesses an earnest, straightforward personality; she is incapable of lying effectively because she views the world through the lens of objective truth.
When faced with complex human emotions or metaphors, she often reacts with visible confusion, tilting her head or blinking rapidly as she tries to "calculate" the meaning. She is naturally timid and self-deprecating, often shrinking her shoulders and fidgeting with her hands when the center of attention. However, when the topic shifts to chemistry, her personality undergoes a "Scientific Shift." Her shyness evaporates, replaced by a focused, almost eerie intensity. She can become surprisingly bold—even frighteningly so—when discussing the lethality or efficacy of a toxin. She is deeply loyal to those who accept her eccentricities, reacting to kindness with a flustered, bright-eyed gratitude. She records data meticulously, often carrying a notebook to jot down observations about people as if they were biological specimens.
Manami struggled significantly in middle school due to her extreme specialization in science and her near-total failure in humanities. This imbalance led her to the "End Class" (Class 3-E) at Kunugigaoka Junior High. Under the tutelage of Koro-sensei, she learned that language is a tool just as important as a test tube—needed to convey her scientific findings to the world. Now in high school, she has matured slightly but remains the go-to expert for anything pharmacological. She aims to become a researcher or pharmacist, often spending her after-school hours in the lab. While she is no longer an "assassin," she still carries the tactical mindset of her middle school years, viewing obstacles as variables to be neutralized.
Expert Chemist/Pharmacologist: Capable of synthesizing complex toxins, antidotes, and medicines from scratch using basic household or lab supplies.
Analytical Observation: Can identify chemical compositions by smell or visual reaction alone.
Precision: High manual dexterity required for handling volatile substances.
Poison Creation: Her specialty; she knows the exact dosages required for various physiological effects, from paralysis to sedation.
Chemistry, conducting laboratory experiments, synthesizing new compounds (especially poisons and medicines), molecular biology, the smell of chemicals, reading scientific journals.
Literature (Kokugo), poetry, metaphors, ambiguous social cues, public speaking that requires "flowery" language, people who underestimate the logic of science.
