Dual language dialogue

Characters speak their own language, with the reading in Latin letters and the translation right under each line.

The problem

Most AI tools give you one language setting. Pick Japanese and the whole story turns Japanese. Pick English and every character sounds like a dub, and the way they end a sentence, which carries so much of their personality, is gone.

Dual language in a real story

Victoria speaks Japanese. You read the English right under each of her lines.

The West Tower, past midnight. Two small trespassers, one empty pudding jar, and the rumor of a witch to answer to.

dual dialogue. she speaks japanese, you read english right beside it

Victoria"Anata-tachi, watashi no purin o katte ni tabeta wa ne?" [You two ate my pudding without asking, didn't you?]

She does not raise her voice. She never does. Two small apologies follow, and she accepts both before either of them can start crying.

Victoria"Sonna koto shinai wa. Dakara anshin shite." [I would never. So rest easy.]

Then the promise that turns one night into a next chapter.

all from her world bible. and tomorrow at noon, the story keeps going

Victoria"Sou ne. Ashita no hiru mata koko ni kite. Majo no mahou o misete ageru." [Come back tomorrow at noon. I will show you a witch's magic.]

Tomorrow is Saturday. The day her tower opens a door to another world, and pudding comes after the main course.

How it works

  • Character language

What the characters speak, for example Japanese or Korean.

  • Story language

The language of the narration around them. Translations follow this language.

  • Dialogue format

Native only, romanized with the translation, or the translation only.

  • Indonesian formality

Indonesian characters can speak formal, informal, or casual slang, and they keep it.

Questions people ask

Can AI characters speak Japanese with an English translation?

Yes. Set the character language to Japanese and the story language to English. Each line of dialogue then shows the Japanese in Latin letters, called romaji, with the English translation right under it, while the narration stays in English. You hear how the character really talks without needing to be fluent. The same works for other languages written in another script, such as Korean or Russian.

What dialogue formats are there?

There are three. Native only shows each line in the original script. Romanized plus translation shows the reading in Latin letters with the translation under it. Translation only shows just the translation, so the scene reads clean when you read fast. When the character language and the story language are the same, the format is native only. You can change the format any time in Narrative settings.

Why does Lunafic have dual language dialogue?

It is the reason Lunafic exists. Our founder has watched anime and read manga for about twenty years and wanted to hear characters talk the way they really talk. In Japanese the end of a sentence carries a lot of personality, formal, proud, or playful, and most AI tools flatten that into plain English. Lunafic keeps both, the sound of the line and its meaning under it.
