Lunafic V4

Lunafic V4, roleplay that is easy to start

Lunafic V4 is the current version of Lunafic, released in October 2026. Lunafic was a professional writing tool that turned into roleplay. You play your own character inside a story world, the AI plays everyone else in their native language, and the story remembers every chapter.

We made V4 because many new players opened a world, typed "Hi" to test it, and did not know what to do next. So V4 makes roleplay easier to start and easier to understand.

New in V4

The main changes

Playable Worlds

Someone else builds the world and you play it, like visiting another player's world in a co-op game. The world, its characters, and its wiki stay with the person who built it. Your story is yours, and you can edit any line of it like a book.

Hero, starting choices, and endings

When you press Play, you choose your hero, a role the author made or your own character, then pick how the story opens from a few starting choices. Some worlds have endings to reach, and locked endings show a hint so you know what to aim for. Worlds without roles are free play.

MC Mode, Author Mode, and the MC picker

Players of a Playable World always play in MC Mode. MC means main character, the character you play, and the AI never writes your character's dialogue, thoughts, or actions. The person who built the world gets two more options in their own world. The MC picker lets them step into any character of the world. Author Mode lets them stop playing a character and tell the AI what happens, then the AI writes the scene with every character.

Scene pictures

The person who builds a world adds pictures for its big moments. While you play, the AI shows the right picture when that moment happens. The author makes these pictures, they are not generated while you play.

Memory

Memory is what the AI remembers about your story. Press Memory above the reply line or type /memory to see what your last reply used, and fix the memory of any chapter or a promise the AI quotes wrong. This is on paid plans.

Four reading looks

Tap Aa and pick Lunafic, Visual novel, Chat, or Light novel. The same story in four looks, with paper colors to match.

Writing tab

Narrative settings has a new Writing tab that works like the options screen of a game. Pick the story feel, the reply length, whether your moves can fail, and how often the characters take the lead.

Phone-first screens

Every screen was redrawn for the phone first, then brought to desktop, so there are fewer things on the screen at once.

Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini

Connect Lunafic to Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini once, then ask about your worlds and stories in plain words. It can read your stories, it never changes them.

Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini

  • Gemini can now connect to Lunafic too. Open Personal Intelligence, then Connectors, click + Custom, paste the Lunafic address, and click Submit.
  • Other AI apps that sign in through a Lunafic page can connect the same way, with no token to copy.
  • Pictures an AI app adds come from a Google Drive link or a file on your computer. Hidden data inside the file, like the place a photo was taken, is removed before it is stored.
  • To keep accounts safe, an AI app can create up to 3 worlds and 50 Wiki entries, add 50 pictures, and make 300 changes every 24 hours. Reading has no daily limit.

V4 launch day

V4 went live around midnight, and we kept shipping updates through the day. Everything below is live.

In this update

Launch

  • V4 released, with Playable Worlds, starting choices, scene pictures, and every screen redrawn for the phone.
  • Playable Worlds are played in MC Mode. Author Mode and the MC picker, which lets you step into any character, are for the person who built the world, in their own world.
  • New login and sign-up pages. Rona, a character from the world Shade of Death can't be this cute, reacts while you type.

Memory

  • Promises, laws, and contracts made in your story are now saved word for word from every chapter. Before, most of them only survived inside a chapter recap.
  • Promises from the chapter you are playing and the one before go to the AI in full. Promises from older chapters go as a short label, and the full words come back when someone the promise names is in the scene or you bring it up. So a story with many promises no longer pushes its old chapters out of memory.
  • The oldest chapters of very long stories no longer drop out of memory. Before, one story carried only 12 of its 19 chapters.
  • When you mention something from an earlier chapter, the AI now looks through every earlier chapter to find it. This now works for Japanese and Korean messages too.
  • This look-back also searches by meaning now, so it finds the right chapter even when you say it in different words.
  • If you go back and add to or rewrite a finished chapter, its memory updates by itself once you move on and keep playing. Small edits wait until they add up.
  • New Memory dialog. Press Memory above the reply line or type /memory to see what your last reply used, edit or update the memory of any chapter, or fix or remove a promise. It is on paid plans.
  • Story notes are notes the AI reads on every reply. Paid plans were stuck at 10 per story by mistake, they now get 30. Free keeps 10.

Long chapters

  • A chapter now opens at your latest message, so you continue where you stopped.
  • New message dots on the right side of the story, one for each message you sent, up to seven at a time. Tap a dot to jump there, or hold and slide to read the message first.

Claude and ChatGPT

  • Connect Lunafic to Claude or ChatGPT once, in Settings under Agent access, then ask about your worlds and stories in plain words, like "Summarize what happened in my last chapter".
  • It can read and search your stories, it never changes them. It can edit your own worlds and their wiki, and every wiki change can be undone.
  • ChatGPT is set up once on its website, then it works in the ChatGPT phone app too. Claude can be set up right from its phone app.

AI writing

  • The world's wiki, like the character sheets, reached the AI as raw code text in almost every story. The AI now reads it as plain text.
  • The AI now uses the real names from the wiki, instead of placeholders like "the user character".
  • In MC Mode the AI now describes what your character sees and hears, and never writes their thoughts.
  • A character called only by a title, like "the ancient Shade of Death", is now recognized, so the AI gets her character sheet.
  • The AI is now asked to let characters act on what they want and to keep hard characters hard. In our tests, one sentence pattern the AI overused dropped from 2 in 3 replies to fewer than 1 in 10.
  • Narrative settings has a new Writing tab that works like the options screen of a game. Long, Very long, and Epic replies now really write longer.

Character languages

  • When a character was set to speak another language, like Japanese, the AI sometimes ignored it. Now Speech Style and Speech Examples in a world's wiki can have a version for each language, and each story gives the AI only the version in its own character language.
  • We are adding these language versions to Lunafic's own Playable Worlds bit by bit.
  • The first time you play someone else's world, a short sheet shows who speaks what language and what language the story is told in, with a button to change it for your story.

Editing, endings, and scene pictures

  • You can now edit any line of your story in Playable Worlds too. At launch this only worked in private worlds.
  • Locked endings now show their hint, so you know what to aim for without spoiling the ending. You see them on the world page and in your story's endings list.
  • The endings you reach are now saved on your account, so they show on every device, on the world page, and on Home. The AI also never gives you an ending your story already reached.
  • An ending that needs a number of turns now counts every turn of your story, across all chapters. Before, the count could drop, and one story took 79 turns to reach an ending set for turn 15.
  • A world's page now shows two of its scene pictures and keeps the rest locked.
  • The Scenes panel in your story shows six pictures and a See all button, and a world can now hold up to 100 pictures.
  • Scene pictures and scene breaks no longer get erased by the next paragraph.

Account

  • Everyone now has a public profile. Its cover is the art of a published world you pick, with your bio, the worlds you made, and the worlds you played if you turn that on. Edit it in Settings, under Profile.
  • Invite friends from the sidebar. When a friend joins and plays their first scene, you both get extra AI usage for that month. The invite sheet shows how much, as a percent of your own monthly AI usage.
  • App pages now follow the language you picked. Before, some pages stayed in English.
  • On the phone, the story sheet on the left is slimmer and the extra menu in the header is gone.

World builders

  • When you publish a world, an automatic check reviews it. The Library now shows when the check is running, when it needs a fix from you, or when it took a world down.
  • When you release a world, the release steps now warn you if one of its starting choices names no character.
  • Pick your world's link in the release steps. It follows the world name until you change it, and it locks after the first release.

What you get

What makes Lunafic different

V4 changed how you start. These stayed at the heart of it.

Scene pictures

The person who builds a world prepares pictures for its big moments. When that moment happens in your story, the picture shows up right in the reply.

Narration

Many AI roleplay apps end a line by jumping ahead, telling you a detail will matter later. Lunafic narration stays in the moment with your character, so what happens next is still yours to decide.

Long-term memory

Chapter forty still knows what happened in chapter four. Older parts of the story fold into a recap by themselves, so you never manage memory by hand.

MC Mode

You write your character. The AI plays everyone else and stops when it is your turn, so it never writes your words, thoughts, or actions.

Editor

Your story looks like a normal roleplay, but every line can be changed. When the AI gets a name wrong, tap it and fix the word instead of paying for a retry.

Dual language

Characters can speak their own language, like Japanese, with the translation right under each line, so they sound the way they should.

Straight answers about V4

What is Lunafic V4?

Lunafic V4 is the current version of Lunafic, released in October 2026. Lunafic is AI roleplay built on a professional writing engine, because it was a writing tool for novelists and screenwriters before it turned into roleplay. You play your own character inside a story world, the AI plays every other character in their own speech styles, the story is saved as chapters and remembered across all of them, and the world shows its own pictures at its big moments. V4 focuses on making roleplay easy to start for players who never roleplayed before.

What changed from V3 to V4?

V3 brought Lunafic back to playing inside stories, on top of the writing engine built for professional writers. V4 keeps that engine and redraws every screen for the phone first. It adds Playable Worlds you play like co-op in a game, a hero and starting choices when you press play, scene pictures that appear at the right moment, four reading looks, and a Memory dialog that shows and fixes what the AI remembers.

Is Lunafic V4 free?

Yes, Lunafic V4 is free to start and needs no credit card. MC Mode, the long story memory, Playable Worlds, and scene pictures work on every plan. The plans differ by how much AI usage you get each month and a few Free limits, like the number of story notes, and on Free the Memory dialog, search, and Find and Replace are locked. Paid plans are for players who play long stories every day and want more AI usage.

Pick a world and press play

You play your character, the AI plays everyone else, and the story remembers every chapter.
